Objection: God Does not Make Mistakes

A common element in trans narratives, even among Christians, is of a gender variant kid being angry with God for making them into the wrong gender. "God made a mistake! I'm not supposed to be a boy." Even more often, gender defenders make the straw man argument that we transpeople all believe God made a mistake. Nothing is further from the truth! Every orthodox Christian believes everything God does is perfect. Kids say this because they are kids and do not have a mature theology.

It is gender defenders, not transpeople, who have heretical Creation theology. Gender defenders believe in an oversimplified Universe where everything exists because God wants it that way and God never wants it to change. Gays have HIV because God is punishing them and therefore we should not try to cure AIDS. This is not Christianity at all; this is pantheism where Nature is made identical with God, that is, idolatry of Nature.

Trans Christians believe that just because something exists, does not make it good. Creation is good, but God has not yet perfected it. "Creation itself will be liberated from its bondage and decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole earth has been groaning as in the pangs of childbirth right up to the present time." (Romans 8:21-22) Christians are split over this matter into Calvinism (e.g., Lutherans, Baptists, and Presbyterians) and everyone else (e.g., Orthodox, Methodists, Anabaptists, Anglicans, Catholics). Calvinists believe that everything that is, is brought by God. However, God does not want us to be passive but to follow God's command which involves fighting sin, natural disasters, and our fallen bodies. Arminians and Christians prior to Calvin believe God is not the sole actor but that sin interrupts God's will. These Christians believe God calls on us to manifest God's will into the world. All Christians agree that God desires good works in the face of imperfection, not resignation to it or acceptance of it.
